
Straw bale Incubation Greenhouse
Location: JTL Center for Regenerative Studies, Cal Poly Pomona
Project: the design and construction of a 20’x40′ greenhouse by faculty, staff and students of Cal Poly
Concept: designed to store heat for tropical fish harvesting in winter, the building utilizes passive and active solar strategies.
Features: Straw bale wall insulation, recycled cellulose attic fill, polycarbonate glazing w/ operable windows for cross ventilation, and solar shingles providing supplemental energy to the JTL Center for Regenerative Studies.
